Photoshop Lineart-Coloring Tut by Kuitsuku Photoshop Lineart-Coloring Tut by Kuitsuku

This tutorial is also available in French: 0nesta0.deviantart.com/art/Tut…
and in German: kiwi-seed.deviantart.com/art/K…

Tons of people asked me to make a tutorial for line art and coloring in photoshop, so here you go~ =3

A few people have requested a Flash drawing tutorial too, so maybe in the future.

This tutorial was made in Photoshop CS2 but it should work as far down as Photoshop 6. All the tools I used are the same in those versions.

Remember, this tutorial shows the way I color. I'd suggest experimenting with this process until you get a result that's nice and easy for you to do. Add more layers of shading, throw in some lighting, go crazy and come up with a style unique to yourself. ^^

To answer questions a lot have been asking:
* I draw with a Wacom Graphire 4 tablet.
* I didn't use the pen tool in any of this. That's...pretty much the point of the tutorial, to get around spending a lot of time on the pen tool. 8D If you don't have a steady hand or your lineart comes out too wobbly, keep practicing. There's nothing more convenient and time saving than a steady hand in drawing.

I just want to thank you for this tutorial. I'm not good as you but with your tutorial I managed to colour the outlines and shade in some colours also adding some gradient effects. I'd love to be good illustrator as you but I need to polish up my skill. I'm struggling to do the outline with size 3 brush though. I hope you can give me some tips with that. It look crap after I've done the outlines with a wacom bamboo pen tablet pad. I have to use 0.5 graphic pens and straight scan, jpeg transfer to photoshop. Anyways cheers and keep up the great work! Love your art works!!

This TUT is very helpful. But I stuck at the outlines already ^^;.I just got myself an graphic tablet and though I can tell my fineliners goodbye. But its SO hard to do steady outlines with that tablet oO I never thought. The lines are all wobly and shifty and I have troubl following the lines of my actuall sketch T-T.
The rest of this tut I used for coloring only work GREAT ^^ so thank you so much. And Ihope you are right that the hand will become more steady oO

Oh that's really cool!!
I don't have a drawing tablet, which it sucks -_-lll
when I use with the mouse it gives me more trouble. That's why I have to do the longer and old school way to do my drawings which it's not perfect but kind of ok _U

Hooray! An easy to understand Photoshop tutorial that anyone can use! :dummy: There's so many tutorials out there for Photoshop that either are too complicated, or make you feel like you're being talked down to. This doesn't do either of these things; it's easy to understand and it seems anyone can pick it up and do it. Thanks for this tutorial!

Are you on the correct layer with your outline? And if so, make sure Your tolerance isn't too high. I usually have mine set to 20.

To shade would I use dodge/burn tool or darken the orignal colour?
Reply
:iconkuitsuku:

I always darken the original color, the dodge/burn tool is very obvious to everyone else's eye. It helps you learn colors better if you choose your own to shade with, too. :)
