This is the second (and hopefully final) turnaround I made for Skiddles. The fist one looked more like a raccoon and it...just wasn't dynamic enough. Not that this one is BAM dynamic, but you can compare the two:
So I would love your opinions on him! My boyfriend and I are making out first storybook and he'll be the main character. It's about him Skiddles, the skunk, helping his human friends (owners) do daily tasks, but he can't seem to do anything right! Most of the time he'll have more of a derpy 'what am I doing here' kind of expression, and he goes over the top to do something like making his human friends breakfast. We definitely want to do more than one book but they'll be really short and simple.
Now character-wise, I didn't want him to have a mouth so his eyes would be the most expressive feature on him. His swirly fur was a last minute addition. I knew I wanted it to be fluffy, but originally it was just a bit of fluff here and there: [link] That felt good enough. And then..I kept kicking myself because I was making his character simpler and simpler, like I was designing something for an animation. If I'm going to illustrate a storybook, I want him to be expressive and fluffy and adorable. D: I definitely want the book to have the line-less look though. It feels so much more fun.
That bright pink nose kinda dominates the face. It might need some toning down, or something. If you're going to make the eyes so expressive, you won't want the nose stealing attention from them!
Aside from that, though, it's absolutely adorable! I can totally see the funny little skunky waddle this guy would have, walking around and sticking his tiny little skunky nose into things... Awwww!
